European Public Opinion: Is this the end of pessimism?

After many long years of crisis during which the state of European public opinion has deteriorated, notably regarding its support of the Union and its institutions there are now some signs which seem to indicate that things are picking up. At a time when economic forecasts for 2014 give reason for hope public opinion also seems to be recovering: pessimism about the future is receding; moreover economic concerns are not as topical whilst those about social issues and society are growing. Unfortunately it seems that although the situation is improving inequalities between Europeans are growing. As the European elections draw closer it is a problem that has to be acknowledged since this is a date that may be the start of a new era between Europeans and their institutions.
